Loves It!
Loves It was born in the vibrant honky tonkin' community of Austin TX in 2010. Vaughn Walters and Jenny Parrott, each veterans of the road, left their other bands to hit the ground running as a duo. Their homemade melodies and rhythms are inspired by folk, country, gospel and early punk. Loves It plays with a veneration for tradition and a determination to bring a modern voice to their favorite sounds. In their first year, they played 197 shows, 8 countries, had a terrible car wreck with an 18 wheeler, learned fiddle, made experimental recordings in Berlin with Boris Hauf, and experienced too many adventures to be told here. Kinky Friedman calls their debut album “Yay” “an American original, another step on the road to the stars.”
Vaughn Walters
Vaughn was born and raised in beautiful Macomber West Virginia, a town of about 47 people and two bars. The Cheat River snakes it's way through the county and the roads are mountainous and windy! Vaughn started his musical life singing with his mother Sandy and Grandfather Vaughn. Vaughn Sr. was also a songwriter who inadvertently rubbed tobacco juice on his Grandson as he sang.
Vaughn found himself with an electric bass in his hands at the age of 16. He was in numerous punk bands, singing, playing, arranging tight songs and playing all over the county. Later on Vaughn performed as Ol' VW and once and had his car egged by a venue owner who apparently found no humor in death metal lyrics set to pop melodies.
At twenty-five, Vaughn moved to Austin TX and founded acoustic trio the Shake 'Em Ups, who toured the US in a haze of upbeat songs, optimism and Thunderbird. That band went bust and Walters became a fixture in Leo Rondeau's honky talk band Dynamite Tales on banjo, guitar and harmony. He played in roadhouses all over America as right hand man to the songwriter for three years before setting sail full time in Loves It.
Jenny Parrott
Jenny Parrott has been singing as long as she can remember. She sang at the dinner table, during class, at the bus stop and on the beach as a kid in New Haven CT. She learned gospel from local church singer David McClure on the way to school, folk songs from guitarist singer Marion teacherlady at West Hills Elementary, and campfire songs camping with her family and the New Haven Hiking Club. During this time, she also got really good at tennis and could probably still kick your butt at it. You can click on the "contact" portion of this website to challenge Loves It! to a doubles match.
Jenny got her first guitar at eighteen and started writing songs, joining Nebraskan country band the Belmont Boys at 21 as lead singer and songwriter. The Belmont Boys became Shotgun Party when Jenny moved to Austin TX at 22. Shotgun Party recorded three full length albums of mostly original material penned by Parrott, and toured the US and Europe extensively for five years. Loves It is the singer's foray into instrumentalism and she is learning fiddle, mandolin and lead guitar. She is writing her first book, a biography of her Grandmother Beatrice Parrott, who is 91. In her spare time she parties with her doggie Boxie Woof Woof and watches Law and Order SVU Marathons.
Musical Guests:
Kurt "el Kurtido" Johnson
Kurt was born in Wisconsin, raised in Colombia and South Texas. He is a man of many talents and degrees, and has very curly hair. He has studied bass at Rice, Peabody, and played all over the world in various orchestras, presumably in a tuxedo. He has backed up Charlotte Church, Brian Wilson, the lead singer from Chicago, and currently enjoys the sounds of Smokie. He played music the likes of which we never heard before in various experimental noise groups such as Lozenge and the Flying Luttenbachers. This is his first "roots" project, and we are learning a lot from playing with him. He drives like James Bond, and we are lucky to have him. We are still learning about him and will expand his bio later after further careful observation of the subject. VIVA EL KURTIDO!
Boris Hauf
Born in Vienna, raised in London, living in Berlin, Boris is the MOSTEST! He plays Baritone Sax and even invited Loves It to back him up in his awesome band Owl and Mack.
Melissa Carper:
Classically trained in the Ozarks, Melissa can sing and play bass and write songs. HOLY HANNAH she's a triple threat! She plays with us at our fancy Austin gigs, like at the Driskill Hotel and the Continental Club. You can catch her with The Caper Family, or Sad Daddy, and now LOVES IT!!!
